THE BROYX FILTERING HALF-MASK: - IS NOT A BARRIER MASK - IS NOT ADAPTED TO THE COVID-19 EPIDEMIC
A barrier mask is used for the protection of those around the user. It prevents spray (droplets and aerosols) that could potentially carry the virus from reaching others.
A Category 1 barrier mask filters at least 90% of particles over 3 microns emitted by the wearer.
THE BROYX FILTERING HALF-MASK DOES NOT PROTECT OTHERS FROM COVID since it is equipped with exhalation valves and the exhaled air is not filtered.

THE BENEFITS OF THE 500 HALF-FACE MASK'S OUTER LAYER
The Sport 500 mask has a polyester non-woven openwork shell. This allows the heat and moisture from exhalation and any perspiration to escape more easily.
It is lighter than the BROYX 700.
THE ADVANTAGES OF THE 2 EXHALATION VALVES
The addition of exhalation valves:
- reduces respiratory resistance while exhaling
- allows heat and humidity to escape more easily, making the mask more comfortable to wear
These valves only let air through while exhaling and close as you inhale. They do not allow particles to enter the mask. They are therefore as effective as masks without valves.
WHAT DOES THE BROYX FILTERING FACE MASK PROTECT FROM?
This face mask protects from solid and liquid particles suspended in the air (droplets, dust)
Classified as FFP1 NR, the Broyx mask filters out at least 80% of medium size particles (0.6 µm).
This includes:
- nanoparticles (PM 10 .PM 2.5 . PM1 . PM0.3)
- traffic dust
- natural pollens, mushroom aerospora, dust mites.
- allergens
Impurities are filtered by a 4-layer filter.
How does the Broyx filter work?
Solid and liquid particles are removed as air passes through the filter layers. It's one of the most effective ways to filter out particles in the air.
This high efficiency is due to the filtering layer's special structure. The fabric's fibres are electrostatically charged, which attracts aerosols (suspended particles) in the air and helps them be caught by the filter.
Composition of a Broyx filter
The Sport 500 and Sport 700 Broyx filtering face masks are equipped with a Broyx 4P1 filter. This filter is made up of the following four layers (numbered from exterior to interior): 1. Pre-filter: for large aerosols
2. Active carbon filter: to neutralise certain odours and aerosols
3. Nanoparticle filter: This is the main electrostatically charged filter. 4. Hydrophobic membrane: to keep moisture away from the filter
DOES THE BROYX 500 HALF-FACE MASK FILTER OUT GASES?
No. While the active carbon layer in the replaceable filter can filter certain odours, this mask DOES NOT FILTER OUT GASES in the air.
BROYX FILTER LIFESPAN
Its filtration category is FFP1 NR (NR = not reusable).
In line with European standard EN-149, it is recommended to CHANGE THE FILTER AFTER 8 HOURS OF USE.
The filters are disposable and cannot be washed or reused.
REPLACING THE BROYX FILTER
- Remove the valves by turning the outer cover counter-clockwise - Remove the valve seal - Remove the filter layer - Insert the new filter layer - The nose piece must be on the upper part of the mask - Put back the valve seal - Put the valve in place by turning the valve cover clockwise. IMPORTANT: Do not discard the plastic valves or the silicone seals when changing the valve.
BROYX HALF-FACE MASK COMPATIBILITY
BIKE HELMET: Yes.MOTORCYCLE HELMET: No, this half-face mask is not compatible with a motorcycle helmet. GLASSES: Yes, this half-face mask can be worn with glasses. It also has anti-fogging properties for added comfort. BEARD: No. A beard (even just stubble) reduces the mask's seal to the face and reduces its overall effectiveness.
FOR CHILDREN / TEENAGERSThese half-face masks are designed for adults. It's important to first measure to make sure they will fit.
SIZE / WEIGHT
Each BROYX mask comes in two sizes: - Size M: For those with a head circumference is 48-56 cm and head height of approx. 14 cm from the base of the nose to below the forehead. Weight: 48 grammes
- Size L: For those with a head circumference of 52-60 cm and head height of approx. 15 cm from the base of the nose to below the forehead. Weight: 51 grammes
The FILTER however is a SINGLE SIZE. So the same filter is used for both mask sizes.
WHAT IS A FILTERING HALF-FACE MASK?
One FFP mask (filtering face piece), a respiration protection device that filters out suspended particulate matter. It is designed to protect the wearer from inhaling droplets and particles suspended in the air.
This mask covers the chin, nose and mouth. It has been certified compliant with the relevant standards and effectiveness tests. It is classified as PPE (personal protection equipment).
ABOUT THE EUROPEAN STANDARD
European standard EN-149:2001 + A1:2009, defines three categories of filtration effectiveness for face masks. These are FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3, based on the effectiveness of the filter and the leakage of air to the face. The higher the number (1, 2 or 3), the higher the guaranteed minimum filtration effectiveness (but respiratory resistance is also higher, meaning that it's harder to breathe especially during physical activity).
THREE FILTRATION CATEGORIES
There are three categories of FFP masks based on their filtration effectiveness (the effectiveness of the filter and leakage onto the face). FFP2 masks filter at least 94% of medium size aerosols (0.6 µm) (total inward leakage < 8%). FFP3 masks filter at least 99% of medium size aerosols (0.6 µm) (total inward leakage < 2%).
WHAT ARE PM10 AND PM2.5?
In addition to gases, atmospheric air contains suspension particles in liquid or solid form (aerosols), which are generally known as suspended particulate matter. These suspended particles are often referred to by the PM acronym which stands for Particulate Matter. The terms PM10 and PM2.5 refer to particles with a diameter smaller than 10 and 2.5 microns (µm), respectively. Note: the average diameter of a human hair is 50 to 70 µm.
WHERE DO PM10 AND PM2.5 PARTICLES COME FROM?
Suspended particles come from natural sources or human activity. Natural particles come from events such as volcanic eruptions, soil erosion, sea spray, or particles carried from desert regions. Particles such as pollens are of plant origin. Particles linked to human activity come from the residential and commercial sectors, industry, transportation, and agriculture.
HOW TO CHECK THAT YOUR MASK COMPLIES WITH THE STANDARD
The markings should be visible. FFP respiration protection masks, and their packaging, must carry the following notices: - CE marking (CE followed by the number of the authorized entity responsible to monitor manufacturing quality)
- The number and the year of the standard covering this type of device (EN 149 +A1:2009)
- The effectiveness classification (FFP1, FFP2, FFP3).- The declaration of conformity must be accessible.
ARE CERTIFICATION MARKINGS REQUIRED FOR FILTERING FACE MASKS IN EUROPE?
Yes, filtering masks must be certified in all European Union member states. The European Union places a strong emphasis on the protection of users wearing face masks. This is why the certification process has been lengthened and effectiveness is inspected regularly. Filtering masks are classified as category III personal protection equipment (PPE), which is the highest category.
DOES THE BROYX FFP1 HALF-FACE MASK PROTECT USERS FROM COVID-19? (PART 1)
This mask is not suitable for the COVID epidemic.
Respiration protection masks (FFP) are classified as personal protection equipment and meet European health and safety requirements established in standard EN 149. This half-mask only protects the wearer from inhaling liquid and solid particles suspended in the air.
Categorised as FFP1, it filters at least 80% of medium-sized aerosols (0.6 µm).
DOES THE BROYX FFP1 HALF-FACE MASK PROTECT USERS FROM COVID-19? (PART 2)
This half-face mask is not designed to fight COVID.
The FFP1 half-face mask is equipped with valves and DOES NOT PROVIDE A BARRIER BETWEEN THE WEARER AND THEIR SURROUNDINGS.
The air exhaled through the valves is not filtered.
Those around the wearer are not at all protected.
Wearing a mask does not eliminate the risk of contamination.
It is important to comply with the social distancing guidelines issued by the WHO.
WHAT IS THE CORRECT WAY TO WEAR THIS HALF-FACE MASK?
- Wash your hands.- Place the mask on your face, with the nose piece on your nose. - Hold the mask and attach the rip-tab fastener at the back of the head.
- Pinch the nose piece with both hands so that it fits nicely on your nose.
- Check that the mask covers your face from the nose to under the chin.
- Adjust the position of your mask using the rip-tab at the back of the head.

PRODUCT CARE
The mask's outer layer, which is made of fabric, can be hand-washed in lukewarm water.
The filters are disposable and cannot be washed or reused.
Storage
Filtering half-face masks must be stored in the manufacturer's sealed packaging (unopened), in a location with an ambient humidity below 80% and temperatures between -10ºC and 30ºC. The maximum time a face mask can be stored is indicated on the product and at the end of the user notice, in a location that is visible through the packaging. Face masks should be kept away and protected from mechanical damage, aggressive chemical products, humidity, and salty air.

Notes: Part 2
- Do not use a face mask that is damaged or if its expiration date has passed. - This mask should not be worn while sleeping. - This half-face mask increases respiratory resistance. If you suffer from a respiratory illness or other illness that could be directly or indirectly made worse by increased respiratory resistance, consult your doctor before use.
