History of the Decathlon Adapted Sports and Parasports Team
The Decathlon Adapted Sports and Parasports team has a mission to make sports accessible, including to people with disabilities, by offering wheelchairs adapted for basketball. Our team is driven by the quality criteria of comfort and user independence. The Adjustable Basketball Wheelchair BW500 28" has been developed (designed and tested) in collaboration with people with disabilities to offer a wheelchair adapted to players' needs.
Medical device and accreditation
The Basketball Wheelchair BW500 28" is recognised as a medical device. It is certified to the EN 12183 standard by the CERAH organisation, which checks in advance that the product meets all required criteria.
Choosing a 28" basketball wheelchair

The Decathlon basketball wheelchair BW500 28" was designed in collaboration with wheelchair basketball players to ensure it meets the needs of athletes while also providing comfort and safety.The wheelchair is certified by the CERAH organization.
How to maintain the Wheelchair FW500
Each week:
- Check the tyre pressure to ensure it glides smoothly.
- Regularly clean and grease the quick wheel release axles.
Quarterly:
- Check the wear of the front tyres, the performance of the front and rear bearings and the rotation of the forks.
- Oil moving parts (wheel release axles).
- Replace parts if needed.
- Use silicone oil as a lubricant.
Instructions for use
Check that the quick release on the drive wheels is locked.
Regular maintenance of the sports wheelchair and appropriate use in compliance with the manufacturer's recommendations are necessary to ensure user safety.
The wheelchair is designed to prevent accidents within the conditions of use specified in the user guide.
We recommend reading the user guide before use.
Frame
Aluminium 7020 alloy frame. The centre of gravity is set at 14 cm. It can be adjusted to meet the needs of users and offer comfort while training and competing in wheelchair basketball.
It is designed to support a max user weight of 120 kg.
Seat
The Basketball Wheelchair BW500 28" has a seat that adjusts to 4 sizes:
Size S - Seat width 34 cm.
Size M - Seat width 36 cm.
Size L - Seat width 38 cm.
Size XL - Seat width 40 cm.
- adjustable seat depth: 34 cm, 36 cm, 38 cm, 40 cm, 42 cm.
- front height: 48 cm, 50 cm, 52 cm, 53 cm
Rear height: 48 cm to 53 cm
Backrest
The default backrest height is 29 cm.- adjustable height:from 25 cm to 39 cm.- adjustable backrest incline (see user guide).
- padded cover
- fabric tension can be adjusted.
Driving wheels
Wheels: 28".
Titanium push rings and wheel camber axle pre-set to 18°.
- wheels are easy to remove.
Front and rear wheels
Front pivot wheels: diameter 72 mm.
Anti-tip wheels
Anti-slip wheels: diameter 72 mm.
The wheels are height-adjustable based on the athlete's specific needs.
Cushion
Seat cushion height: 5 cm, polyurethane with 75 Sh hardness. Cushion depth: 40 cm.
It was designed to meet the specific needs of wheelchair basketball.
The cushion does not prevent bedsores.
Safety straps
Rip-tab straps at the thighs and calves:
- thigh strap: 8 cm wide.
- calf strap: Width: 5 cm.
