The story behind Decathlon's Adapted Sports brand
The aim of the Decathlon Adapted Sports brand is to make para cycling accessible. That's why we've created this handbike for disabled people who want to ride for leisure or to get around town on the roads. The team's main focus was to keep users independent and comfortable. To do this, they designed and tested the products with people with a range of different disabilities to make sure they'd met everyone's needs.
Certification and medical device
The handbike is recognised as being a medical device. It has been certified according to standard EN 12183 by CERAH, who tested our products to make sure they met all the requirements.
How should you choose your handbike?
Choosing your para cycling bike:
- how good you are at cycling and how often you ride.
- how comfortable the bike is.
- the equipment and safety features it comes with, e.g. bell, light, etc.
- the bike's certification.
The HB500 adjustable handbike has been designed with input from disabled people so that we can be sure we're keeping users safe and comfortable.
It's suitable for use on roads, particularly in the city.
The chair is certified.
Handbike maintenance advice
In the interest of safety, it's important to regularly check that:
- the tyres are at the right pressure, for safety and a smooth ride (the max pressure is shown on the tyre).- the brakes are working properly.- the gear and brake cables aren't tangled.
Every three months:
- the thru axle screws on the rear wheels are secure.
- the front and rear wheel bearings are working effectively.
- the derailleur and gears are positioned correctly
- if needed, lubricate with silicone oil (it is non-messy)
Directions for use
Check before use: the wheels are locked on tightly; the lights and bell are working.
The handbike is designed to reduce the risk of accidents when used normally, i.e. under the conditions described in the instructions. Inappropriate use could compromise user safety.
In the interest of safety, if you need to change a part, we recommend only using original parts or parts approved by the manufacturer.
