A realistic game bird shell decoy designed to maximise your chances of attracting game birds
This shell is the first half-decoy of a game bird entirely designed by our teams. At Solognac, our aim, when it comes to shooting game birds, is to facilitate encounters between shooters and game birds, while shortening the distances from these fine blue game birds. The realism of this decoy, in particular its colours and size, therefore plays a key role in your ability to attract these wild game birss.
The decoy's realism: an essential factor
When shooting game birds in flight, it is essential that the decoys laid out on the ground be as solid, comprehensive and realistic as possible to lure the game birds. With this set, the flock you lay out (with beaks pointing into the wind) maximises your chances of attracting them. The paint used mimics the bird's colours as closely as possible, and also withstands deterioration due to sunlight, rain, sand and being rubbed against other decoys when being transported, in particular.
Mesh carry bag included
Some of the game bird hunters spoke to told us that it would be useful to design a bag to store and carry their decoys. So, we thought about it, and now we are delighted to meet their expectations with this set of six shell decoys that comes with a mesh bag. Why mesh? Because it is easy to clean off any mud or sand.
A versatile decoy: two positions possible with the built-in clip-on stem
The shell decoys can be stacked on top of each other to occupy less space when transported. This is a significant benefit when you are heading to your shooting position with 10, 20, 30 or more decoys. This model features two holes on the top: this allows you to choose whether the shell decoy mimics a game bird that is eating or a game bird standing up with the built-in stem. This stem is clipped on under the decoy (no need to carry the components separately and risk losing the stem).
How to position your decoys on the ground
Shooters are recommended not to install their game bird decoys at random.Three main considerations should be taken into account: the direction of wind, the direction from which the game birds will come, and where you are stationed.Several decoy patterns are possible, but conditions are ideal (the wind blowing from behind you & the game birds coming head on), then place the shell decoys 20-25m from your hide in a broad "U" shape on the ground so that the game birds come in to land in the middle.
Increase your chances of attracting game birds with these tricks
To further increase the realism of your array of decoys, we recommend that you supplement them with our new 500 solid decoys and mobile decoys positioned facing into the wind (such as hypaflaps or rotating-wing game bird decoys for movement). Finally, wear camo clothes and don't forget your hide! For example, see our shield-style hide. These tips will enable you to spot the game birds in the distance slowing down, gliding and coming in to land.
