A durable mask that complies with the standards:
- A washable, reusable fabric mask. We have chosen to make a mask with a high level of aerosol filtration that complies with the most demanding filtration category (>90% of 3µm particles exhaled by the wearer)
- Complies with European specification CWA 17553:2020.
- This mask is in addition to social distancing and other measures.
- Can be machine-washed 50 times, which works out as a cost of 4 cents per use.
When should you change your mask?
1/ You should wash your mask:
- After 4 hours of use.
- If the mask is damp.
- If breathing becomes difficult.
- If you have touched it with unwashed hands
- After each use, even if you have used it for less than 4 hours in a row
2/ You should replace your mask:
- If it looks damaged.
- After 50 washes as it is no longer guaranteed to filter aerosols as effectively
Washing
Washing:
- Wash before first use
- Wash in a laundry bag to protect the mask
- The mask should be washed at 60°C for more than 30 minutes at this temperature.
- Do not use a short or express cycle.
- Wash your hands with water and soap or with an alcoholic sanitiser gel after putting the mask in the washing machine.
Our advice:
- Do not remove the adjustment knot, as it is designed to prevent the elastic from coming out entirely during washing.
20 or 50 WASHES?
YOUR MASK CAN BE WASHED 50 TIMES! This applies to ALL MASKS previously produced, as well as future masks.
To move things along quickly, we decided to submit this mask to the DGA - which approved it - after just 20 washes. At the same time, we carried on testing and proved that it would withstand 50 WASHES. The new report allows us to officially announce this change.
EVEN IF IT SAYS 20 washes ON YOUR INSTRUCTIONS, YOU CAN IGNORE THIS (we're in the process of updating the instructions)
Drying/Ironing
Drying:
• Tumble or dry naturally until completely dry, then iron at 110°C with the steam on

- is not personal protective equipment (PPE) as defined in Regulation (EU) 2016/425 (FFP2 filtering masks)
WARNING: if you are ill, this mask is not appropriate. Consult your doctor.
- Do not modify the mask
Storage
- When not in use, store in a clean, dark place with a max humidity of 75% and at a temperature between -2°C and +55°C to preserve its properties.
- After washing, once the mask is dry, store it in a sealed container (plastic bag or box) to preserve its properties.
How to dispose of a damaged mask
- Masks should not be disposed of on public roads.
- Masks should be disposed of in a separate, durable bin bag that can be sealed.
- Once the bin bag is full, it should be fully sealed then stored for 24 hours.
- After 24 hours, the bag can be thrown away with your general household waste.
- Masks should never be disposed of in recycling bins (for paper, cardboard, plastic, etc.).
Should you add a filter?
This Decathlon mask has been designed to filter particles without an additional filter. Adding a filter can be counter-productive as it decreases the mask's breathability.
By blocking air, the additional filter increases the risk of air escaping around the sides of the mask. This is why we have not provided a space for an additional filter.
